After many hours of travel and 6 airports (for me) we have arrived in Ankara, Turkey. Four members of our group have been separated from their luggage, but everyone arrived safely. The flight to Ankara was very scenic. I finally had a window seat and was able to take picture of those beautiful yellow fields and the mountains as we flew out of Munich. We later learned they are flowers from the canola plant.
Flying into Ankara it was evident just how prosperous Turkey has become. The buildings arrear to be very new and a significant amount of construction continues. We flew over beautifully colored high rises, that I later learned had been constructed to replace the "slum" areas of the past.
We learned several things on the 45 minute drive through rush hour traffic. Ankara, the Capitol of Turkey, has a population of 4 million, 99% of which are Sunni Muslim. It is known for its beautiful parks. We passed many which were well manicured and populated. The downtown is very modern as are the residential buildings.
We arrived at our Sheraton hotel about 5:00 pm and had just enough time to walk to shopping mall a block away.

There were many small shops selling mostly long formal gowns and linens. We wondered what type of events required such a large selection of formals. We stayed awake long enough to have a wonderful dinner. After a hot shower, it was great to be able to crawl into a real bed. There is no doubt I will sleep well tonight. Maybe by tomorrow I will have figured out how to rotate pictures.
